Read MoreThe Sarawak river cuts through the city of Kuching. The riverside promenade is a popular picnic area and one of the major attractions in the city. A boat transport costs around 2RM to cross the river. I hopped on the boat to reach Fort Margherita.
River cruise as well as single engine tour boats operate near the waterfront. The tours are quite information and provide a one hour scenic ride and some useful information about the region.
One engine boats are also popular and cheap way of exploring the river views on a bright sunny day.

Catch a boat across the River from Sarawak Riverfront to walk up to Fort Margherita strategically located on top of hill overlooking Kuching City and river. The Brooke Gallery houses a large collection of historical artifacts from times of the explorer James Brooke.

Exploring old Kuching town is an interesting exercise during your stay in the city as a numbr of historical buildings and places of worship including Sikh Gurdwaras as well as Mosques are located near Jalan Market Area. I enjoyed visiting this amazing structure and offered my Zuhr prayers at Bandaraya Mosque.
If you are keen to learn about the amazing cultural, natural and art & crafts history of the region, Sarawak State Musueum has a huge repository of historical artificats, preserved animals, mining history and replicas of long-houses used by tribals in the jungles of Sarawak. The Museum is located at a walking distance from the Merdeka Shopping Center and old part of the town.

Three big shopping Malls including Tun Jugah Shopping Malls as well as Topspot food-court is located at a walking distance from the hotel. You can explore Jalan Abell for some local restaurants serving wide range of Malay and continental dishes.
