Pasar Sanai or Central Market was established in 1888 and has been a place of interest for over the last 130 years. Today, Central Market is a cultural landmark offering a great mix of shopping for locally produced cultural artifacts, batik, souvenirs and products unique to Malaysia. An art market next to the Central Market area is a place to explore paintings and artwork by local artists.
I have always enjoyed exploring the Central Market and make sure to enjoy nice lunch at Precious Old China Restaurant (Peranakan Food) on the first floor of the building.
There are a number of coffee shops and cafes and a food court on the first floor. Several businesses sell cultural artifacts from other areas of Malaysia including Kuala Terengganu and Borneo, the regions with rich cultural heritage.
